Shannon Then - How it started

The Shannon, fraud detective, series began life over twenty years ago. There are four books in what I now call Shannon Then. These were then much more recently published bringing everything up to date in what I call Shannon Now. There are five books in that part of the series. The Shannon Now series came about in an unusual way. My elder daughter was re-reading the original Shannon Then books – has always been a fan – and said that there needed to be more books in the series – Shannon was such a good character that he needed more ‘airtime’, more exposure. And, so, we wrote Blue on Blue, the start of Shannon Now series, together. New life blood injected. I defy anyone to tell me which of us had written which chapters, which plot threads.

And so there were four more books added to the series. Just my own work from that point, although each book passed to my daughter for scrutiny.

Footnote: For new readers I would suggest starting with Blue on Blue, the first of the Shannon Now series, then working your way through that series, then going back to Due Diligence where it all started.

Due Diligence Book Cover

Due Diligence – Shannon discovers the headless body of his boss, leader of the due diligence team for takeovers and mergers, and the police regard Shannon as the prime suspect. He needs to solve the murder or wind up back in prison.

Paul Bennett Collateral Damage Book Cover

Collateral Damage – Shannon is seconded to the Fraud Squad. Why would a suspect for a small fraud smash the window in a tower block with a chair and dive after it? What did he fear?

Paul Bennett False Profits Book Cover

False Profits – A murder at an insurance company seems motive-less. He’s been stabbed in the heart with a chisel. Strange method. Is a strange cult behind it or is it somehow about greed? Follow the money is the mantra.

Paul Bennett The Money Race Book Cover

The Money Race – The daughter of the head of a London borough goes missing along with several hundred thousand pounds. Shannon needs to find her and the money before the theft has to be reported. The deadline is the annual carnival which OWN (one white nation) are aiming to violently disrupt proceedings – if some people are going to get hurt, then that’s a triumph for OWN. Who cares? Shannon.
